Preparation

Our ACTIV Mini-Academy program (U5-U8) incorporates Canada’s Soccer Pathway to promote a love for the game at an early age. This program is a twice-a-week programme for players ages 4 – 7. “Fun” is the central theme at all training sessions as we believe that soccer development at this age will occur expeditiously when players are enjoying themselves. As such, the curriculum is filled with games and activities that are enjoyable and foster a strong desire for the sport.

Practices consist of timed stations (roughly 10-12 minutes each) falling into the 3 categories for development: soccer technique, athletic development, and small-sided games.  Within the stations, players are encouraged to be creative in their exploration of all aspects of the sport:

Athletic Development Station

Multilateral movements involves drills designed to promote physical literacy. The kids will learn speed, agility, balance and coordination while participating in very “ACTIV” tasks. With heavy emphasis on coordination, players will be exposed to drills that combine different movements, and serve to promote better control of their bodies with and without a ball.

Technical Station

Soccer technique involves drills that teach dribbling, control, passing, and shooting. This is where the kids develop basic skills they will use for the rest of their soccer careers.

Small Sided Games Station

Small-Sided Games are where the kids are able to apply some of the skills they learn in “real” game scenarios. This can include scrimmages, or other variations of games with a ball. Throughout the season, there will also be a couple of tournament days (World Cup style) where the kids play for the whole practice to promote fun and healthy competition. These days are only possible based on the number of registered members and/or players committed to attend practices on the tournament days.
